Generating electricity from the waves of the Sea

Every day increases the need for the search for alternative sources of energy that cause less impact to our Environment.
Among these new sources, the waves have proven their potential for being a source of clean energy, a renewable resource, ie, the possibility of its use generates no risk of exhaustion, making significantly the possibility of sea water be used as generating energy.
Several technologies for extracting energy from waves are being tested in the UK, Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark, United States, among other countries.
In Brazil, it is planned to build a prototype, developed by COPPE / UFRJ (Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute Graduate and engineering research at the Federal University of Rio De Janeiro), but tests have been performed in an oceanographic tank.

Thus, we analyzed the performance of the model for the installation of the first wave power station in Brazil, on the coast of Ceará State, by sea conditions at the site and evaluated the characteristics of the waves, sea conditions, etc..
For the effective use of this technology are still necessary research to improve its implementation. The potential of the Brazilian coast is already proven, and this technology will add much to Brazilian energy matrix.
The design wave conversion into electricity is conducted by Submarine Technology Laboratory at COPPE / UFRJ (Brazilian University) and has the support of Eletrobras and the Government of the State of Ceara.
